Festival of Colors-Holi Celebration!

Robie and I decided to attend the Festival of Colors this weekend.  We didn't know what to expect since it was our first time going, but we came prepared with baggy old shirts and money to buy color.  Walking up to the beautiful Hare Krishna Temple, there were not too many people there. We thought this was because we were attending the afternoon celebration, and the morning celebration is usually more popular.
This was just the beginning.  Our shirts were still white, and our faces still clean.
Robie enjoyed throwing paint color at random girls who looked like they were trying to stay "pretty".  It was actually really funny watching them freak out and give us weird looks when we threw paint all over them.  My philosophy- if you didn't want to get dirty, then why did you come to the festival?
In what seemed like a matter of minutes, there were thousands of people there.  It was crazy.  Everyone was dancing and singing and preaching peace and love.  It was like a zoobie woodstock.  Then, we all counted down and celebrated Holi by throwing color in the air!  It was the craziest two minutes of my life.  I have never experienced anything like it.  It was like falling into a rainbow, and for a few moments I felt there was no one but me dancing in the beautiful colors.  As the cloud settled, everyone was COVERED in pink, purple, orange, red, yellow, green, and blue.
Celebrating Holi was a really fun experience.  The afternoon celebration turned out to be bigger than the morning.  It was fun seeing the traditions of a different culture, and I am happy we were able to be a part of it for a day.  When we got home, the color was everywhere.  I think we blew our purple snot for the whole next day anytime we blew our nose.  Next year, we might consider bringing a face mask and goggles.  Happy Holi!
